Tax Assistance and Information for People with Disabilities (Tax AID DABC)

Tax Assistance and Information for People with Disabilities DABC (Tax AID DABC) is a program offered by Disability Alliance BC (DABC). Through this program, we can assist people who are receiving the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) benefit or the Persons with Persistent and Multiple Barriers (PPMB) benefit with simple income tax filings and information/referrals. Haven’t filed your taxes for numerous years? Don’t worry, we can help.

Since the program began in July 2015, we have assisted clients in filing over 1060 years of taxes and accessing over $771,000 in tax credits and benefits.

Tax AID advocates can:

  • Help you gather the documents necessary to file your taxes
  • Meet with you one-on-one to help you file your basic
    income tax return
  • Provide information and advice (in-person, or by phone and/or email) about filing income tax returns
  • Provide referrals to community organizations in your area that can help with more complex tax returns (returns for deceased persons; individuals who file for bankruptcy; self-employed individuals; individuals who report capital gains or losses; or individuals who report employment expenses or business or rental income and expenses)
  • Access advice and support for you from a chartered accountant if your tax return is complex

Access Registered Disability Savings Plan The Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP), introduced in 2007, is a powerful way for eligible people with disabilities to save for their long-term financial security. It also enables people receiving social assistance to protect assets and income. Through a new partnership with Plan Institute and the BC Aboriginal Network on Disability Society (BCANDS), we can: - Help people who are eligible for the RDSP to apply for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), a pre-requisite for the RDSP. - Connect individuals who have the DTC to Plan Institute or BCANDS who will help people open an RDSP.
Advocacy Access Since 1977, Disability Alliance BC has been a provincial, cross-disability voice in British Columbia. Our mission is to support people, with all disabilities, to live with dignity, independence and as equal and full participants in the community. We champion issues impacting the lives of people with disabilities through our direct services, community partnerships, advocacy, research and publications.
