The Vernon Community Police Office

The goal of community policing is to bring the residents of the community and the police together. It also allows for residents to be actively involved in the policing needs of THEIR community.

As crime prevention, rather than reaction to crime, involves the whole community, volunteers are recruited and trained in various areas of crime prevention.

Volunteer staff allows for greater interaction between the community and the police staff.

Effective policing can only be achieved when there is ongoing co-operation and partnership between the police and the public.

Community policing allows the public to become familiar with their police service and the police become more knowledgeable about their community.

Community based policing recognizes the crucial role of the community in being a success, and needs the active involvement of the residents of the community in the planning and delivery of policing services.
